Welcome to the National Clean Plant Network for Berries
The National Clean Plant Network for Berries (NCPN-B) produces clean planting stock for berry crops. NCPN-B is part of a network of clean plant centers in the United States that conducts diagnostics and pathogen elimination services and maintain pathogen tested plant materials for nurseries so they can be included in state certification programs.
Production of berry crops such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries, starts with clean plant material. Healthy plants are easier to propagate and produce higher yields and better quality fruit.
National Clean Plant Network-Berries Centers
The program works closely with breeders and nurseries to develop strawberry, blackberry, raspberry and blueberry plants free of known viruses.
The program produces, maintains and supplies specific pathogen-tested plant material of berry crops to scientists and industry.
This program carries out virus elimination, tests, maintains and distributes virus-tested strawberry propagation
stock from the University of California strawberry breeding program.
The program emphasizes development of new diagnostic assays to provide laboratory- based tests for all the virus and virus-like agents that infect strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and blueberry.
